#12 0 – Zero

Of course, the internet itself came about as a result of research by the United States government. Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) produced ARPANET; the network that became the basis for the Internet. However, the World Wide Web (which you happen to be using right now) was invented by both British and Belgians at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Switzerland.
What would the world be without Velcro? Well, we might know that answer if it weren’t for the Swiss who invented it. Swiss electrical engineer George de Mestral came up with it back in 1948 and coined the term based on the French words “velours” (velvet), and “crochet” (hook).
Yeah we’re talking about the number 0. It was actually invented in India of all places. The symbol itself did exist beforehand in Ancient Egypt, but it was used more as a placeholder. It was made useful in calculations in India.
